Community of Miguel Badra – outskirt of Suzano’s town
"In this street, in this street, has a forest that is called that is called loneliness inside it, inside it lives an angel that stole that stole my heart"
(Traditional Lullababy Brazilian Song)
One of the main identifications that we made since the beginning of the activities of Oasis Brazil at Miguel Badra community related with the scarcity of the public resources available there such as basic sanitation, and also the absence of parks, squares. ..It is hard to see something cared on this community. The streets are not pavement, the sewer is not channeled. ..Our first look aimed ourselves to the absences there. Afterwards we begin related ourselves with the inhabitants, with the infants, and our look changed! |

"While the happy society does not raise, that have at least fragments of future in that THE JOY WILL
BE SERVED LIKE ACRAMENT for that the infants learn how the world can be different" (Rubens Alves)

The community passed to be a local of friendship, communion
and sharing and in this first year we had learnt that the greatest resource that the community has,
are the persons that live there. We learnt with the effort of each mother that insists on the
education of their children even when the public school suffers for a structural bankruptcy, we
learnt with the solidarity with we are presented day by day with the invitations for coffees, smile
and affectionate hugs, we learnt how the common effort can reach a general goal... The voice of
an inhabitant of the community that dreams for improvements, can become the voice of all the
community, we just need to let our ears have the sensibility of amplify what is good, and translate
it in common well... Was like this that our party began.
The Graphite Festival
A great friend that we have at the community of Miguel Badra is Joel. He has been lives for a
long time on this community. He always tell us his personal history as well as the history of the
fight for obtain the improvements that are a right for the community. Joel is student of Biology,
professor, and he is completely aware about the needs of Miguel Badra, for a long time he has
been struggling with the implementation of the Foundation More Life in the community. One
day, in one of our visits he commented about a graphite festival that he would like to promote.
We, that have been working our ears to hear with amplifiers the sounds that signal changes, asked
him how we would be able to help. He then said us that he had the idea of to paint some of the
walls that encircle the headquarters of Foundation More Life, and then offer trophies for the three
first best graphite works; however he did not had the resources for the purchase all the stuff. |
Listening it, we began to dream a little more far... We dreamed with colourful tents with options
of access of culture, leisure, citizenship... And, so, we made him the proposal of work together...
He, that also has amplifiers of dreams in his soul, welcome our support and we started to plan a
big party for the community... What was initially planned to be a Graphite Festival became the
Citizenship Party!
We listed the needs, invited friends to develop volunteer activities (as clowns,
educators, etc), persons that could donate some kind of stuff, etc... During 15 days we had
involved ourselves on the preparatory work of this party, and so, this party became to ourselves
much more than a simple festival of dance, music, leisure, citizenship. |

Children’Book Stand

One party that has its beginning from the yearnings of those that believe and fight for the common well oversteps the limits of the plausible and encourages us to walk in our life by the poeticprophetic sounds of the prophecies that challenge people to still believe in the construction even when facing destruction, in the joy despite of the pain, in the force of the arm of the impoverished despite of the force of the tyrant In the beauty of the sounds of all the children songs sang in loud voice by infants that many times cannot play because they have to work. We are motivated and inspired to live our lives under the sign of hope nourished by the flavour of the fight for justice. Justice and Hope. Prophecy celebrated in form of poetry. This is for us the better way and definition to illustrate a little bit about our First Citizenship Festival... |
End of the Party?
“Sometimes when my heart is strong I hear a severe accusation: You cannot leave the world
on the way that it is ...” (Janusz Karczak)
And, in the end of the day, beyond and after the several one thousands of mishaps that we faced,
we evaluate our 1a Citizenship Festival as one kind of good presage about better days and better
parties that by certain will happen, for the community of Miguel Badra, and also for us that are
part of the group of persons that are still not conformed with the injustices of the world, with the
deprivations and pains of the humanity. So, we will carry on the hope that we have and we will
have a lot to work and much, much more to celebrate!
